What Brands List Lead in Cacao Powder

Question:

Do you have a list of brands of coca powder that are available in the USA that test for levels of lead in their cocoa powder?
I've been eating Aldi, Inc.(discount food chain) brand of Baker's Corner cocoa powder. When I asked the distributor/manufacturer if they could tell me the ppm lead levels in their cocoa powder they said it wasn't required by law to test for lead so they don't.

Thanks' for the help

Answer:

Hi Dee,

Thanks for letting me know about PicoSearch not working. I'll check into that and get it repaired.

In regards to list of brands of cacao powder that test for lead, I have not found any brand that lists the lead content on the label. The only way I find out is by calling or emailing the company that manufactures or packages the cacao powder.

The last one I checked on was Sunfood, and it took them 6 months to get me an answer which was in December 2012. The other company's I asked seem to drag on and on about getting an answer back to me. You might want to contact Sunfood to see what they say. They actually were not tracking the lead content because there were other products that were more important to find out about at that time. But they didn't forget me and did get back to me by email with the information.

Here's a link to their website where you can find out how to contact them.

Sunfood Nutrition

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Janis

Let's get a petition going!
by: Anonymous

All of us should be worried and mad that our country doesn't require companies to test for levels of lead in the cocoa powder they sell to use. I say we start a petition to pass a law require it to be tested for and put on the label of all products sold with cocoa powder in them. We need to draft something in writing to convince our government that we think this is important enough to do what Canada and other countries have already done. I think Canada and some of the EU countries require products such as cocoa powder be tested for lead and that nothing above .02ppm is allowed to be sold. I think we should require the same standards from our country. Isn't the USA the richest country on the planet, shouldn't we be the gold standard?
