Unhealthy Foods - Your Choice?
Unhealthy foods are on the increase but difficult to tell them from the healthy foods. You'll find a lot of information here that may be upsetting to you. I hope you'll take the time to look further and really determine for yourself what are the unhealthy foods. It's up to you if you want to stick with them or transfer over to the more healthy choices. I've provided links to more information at the bottom of this page.
Are You Getting Poison in Your Foods?
"Poison: a substance that, when introduced into or absorbed by a living organism, causes death or injury, esp. one that kills by rapid action even in a small quantity." Reference: New Oxford American Dictionary
By the above definition, it doesn't sound like you want poison any where near your healthy foods. When I was a little girl, I remember seeing a skull and crossbones on bottles containing poison. The skull and crossbones have since disappeared and in its place came one of these words...
CAUTION - WARNING - DANGER
These words now mean the content is poison, but in varying degrees. If you look on a toothpaste tube from a drugstore or local grocery store, you'll see one of the above words on the label. Yes, even on children's toothpaste.
How Does this Relate to Unhealthy Foods?
Conventional Agriculture began using pesticides to grow our food after World War II ended in 1945. The foods produced by conventional agricultural methods are the foods you see in the mainstream grocery stores.I came across a couple of trailers of movies soon to be released that you won't want to miss if you are at all interested in what's going on with our food. Healthy unhealthy foods is quite a puzzle. Foods are marketed and sold as "healthy" but are actually "unhealthy foods" in disguise. Check it out, You definitely don't want to miss it.
Pesticides Are Poisons
We don't have poison labels on our packaged foods or our fresh fruits and vegetables, even though most do contain poisons. These poisons are the pesticides that seeds are soaked in, or the pesticides that are sprayed on the plants. These same poisons are in the food that can end up on your table. Pesticides destroy all living organisms, even the good microorganisms that create the food nutrition we are trying to get."By their very nature, most pesticides create some risk of harm - Pesticides can cause harm to humans, animals, or the environment because they are designed to kill or otherwise adversely affect living organisms." Pesticides in Foods - Tolerance Levels
The EPA, (Environmental Protection Agency) has been monitoring how much is too much and setting tolerance levels as a guide. These tolerance levels determine the amount of pesticides that can be safely eaten. How do you set tolerance levels to include all people: children, seniors, the chronically ill, the chemically sensitive. Are these groups taken into account? It was hard to find out. I came across a website created by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardner’s Association that gives more insight into this subject . Here is one of the statements from a quiz I found on their site. You answer with True or False. When you click on the answer link, you'll find the answer plus the entire quiz. “Washing and peeling fruits and vegetables removes all or most pesticide residues.
Answer
After doing the quiz, you may need more reading material to help you determine if you want to continue to buy or avoid conventional foods grown using pesticides. A book, “Fatal Harvest The Tragedy of Industrial Agriculture” - 2002 is a wonderful book with pictures that capture the differences in the sustainable farming practices and conventional methods. This book has references to actual studies linking pesticides to cancer. I avoid conventional agricultural produced foods whenever possible because it is an area I can have control over when it comes to my health. I hope the above information helps you make a decision. It's a pretty important one. If not, continue to gather more information from this website and other places. It will soon be easy for you to make a determination as to which are the unhealthy foods and which are the healthy.
